This Compulsory education report focuses on Compulsory Education matters, during the academic year 2017-2018. The purpose of this year’s report is to provide the Parliament of Sint Maarten with an overview of the Compulsory Education related developments that took place during the academic year 2017-2018. In addition, this report focuses on improvements and setbacks compared to the previous years.
Data from this Compulsory Education Report is also used to analyze the quality of education on St. Maarten (see the State of Education Report 2017-2018).
This Compulsory Education Report covers the following items:
- Data on students who have been absent during the academic year 2017 -2018;
- Data on the number of students who applied for exemption of school attendance;
- Data on suspension, expulsion, deregistration, dropouts, interventions and special cases;
- Data on undocumented students;
- Data on home- schooled students.
Comparisons are made with previous academic year(s) when patterns are discovered. In addition, an update is given of the developments based on the conclusions & recommendations from the 2017-2018 academic year.

Description:
The goal of this annual report is to inform the Minister and Parliament about the quality of education on St. Maarten and new developments within our education system. A decision on publicizing the report has yet to be made.
The 2016-2017 State of Education Report differs from the previous SER’s , because it consists also of information compiled during the inspections based on a new inspection framework in 2016-2017, when all schools were visited by the Inspectorate. New topics that have been included are: school climate, school development plan, internal quality monitoring, curriculum, teamwork and communication.
